Poveda
Well, it's not the best school in the world, but it's not half bad either.  This page is a small dedication to the school where I attended my high school years. One last note, I didn't write any of the information below, so I thank whoever did (I don't know, it's public domain I guess) and if you ever do come across this page and want credit for you work, feel free to email me. Thanks! Lastly, if any of you want to add anything to it, just email me the information, and I'll see what I can do.

Poveda learning Center, a Catholic educational community, shares the mission of the church to serve society through its ministry of promoting culture. it is inspired by Blessed Pedro Poveda's vision, developed and applied to education in the light of present day needs/ Centered in Christ, the source and model of human life, it is a faith response to Christ's call to wholeness and to help build a world where love, peace, and justice prevail. It has its exemplar, Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Rooted in Filipino culture and tradition, Poveda Learning Center commits itself to the total formation of each person within the educational community. Its principal objective is to assist the individual towards the full development of his/her God-given potentials as a member of the human community. This goal is realized in a climate of joy, simplicity, order and love in a family atmosphere. Pedro Poveda

Blessed Pedro Poveda y Castroverde was born in Linares, in the province of Jaen, Spain on December 3, 1874. He was ordained priest in Guadix in 1897. He became Canon of Covadonga in 1906 and he moved to Jaen in 1913. He was named Royal Chaplain in Madrid in 1921. On July 28, 1936 he was assassinated by the Marxist in Madrid. When asked who he was on that fateful morning, he answered very simply: "I am the priest of Christ."
Blessed Poveda, who was priest first and foremost, manifested his love for the priestly ministry and his giftedness as an educator in all his activities. In 1974, on the centennial of his birth, he was honored in Paris by the UNESCO as an outstanding educator and humanist.
With faith in God and hope in a new humanity, Blessed Pedro Poveda lived in the Christian virtues in a heroic degree and gave his life as a priest, a martyr of Christ. He was beatified on October 10, 1993 at St. Peter's Square, Rome, Italy by his holiness Pope John Paul II.

Victoria Diez

Blessed Victoria Diez y Bustos de Molina was born on November 11,1903 in the ancient city of Seville. Not only was she known for her liveliness, affability, and capacity to sacrifice but for her talent for painting as well. Blessed Victoria was remembered for her outstanding piety. She joined the Teresian Association on August 3, 1928 and lived her life as a simple rural teacher, spending more than quality time with the youth of the town of Hornachuelos. Because of her firm resolution to " go to the ends of the world as long as it is for His glory and the salvation of men", she was one of the faithful who were asked to renounce their faith. But Victoria did not succumb to the will of the republic, thus, on August 12, 1936, hers was a life of a martyr... surrounding everything to her Creator.

Josefa Segovia

Poveda's Prayer and Famous sayings

Morning Prayer:
Lord God, I come before your presence to give You thanks for the gift of a new day.   With the help of your grace, I will praise and bless Your name, serve you faithfully, and strive to be as holy as You want me to be.

I earnestly desire that all my thoughts, words, and actions be Yours alone, for all that I am and all that I have come from from You.

From now on, I accept all sufferings and difficulties rather than offend You by sin, I firmly resolve to avoid all deliberate sins.  I will do my best to fulfill my duties and responsibilities according to Your own Will.

Holy Mother of God, you are my Mother and everything to me, give me light to understand, watch over me, and let me not forget you, so that the very thought of you may be for me, light, comfort, and strength.  Most honey Mother, I offer myself completely to your service.  Care for the presence of your divine Son forever and ever, Amen.

Holy guardian angel, pray for me to God, inspire me and help me to be faithful and obedient to his will, so that one day, I may bless the King of angels for all eternity.   Amen.

Poveda's Prayer:
Lord, that I may think what You want me to think;
that I may love what you want me to love;
That I may speak what You want me to speak;
That I may act the way you want me to act:
Lord, this is my only ambition.

"Salt seasons the tasteless.
This is your mission:
to season the tasteless wherever you go,
To make the life of zeal agreeable
and virtue attractive."

"This is my constant concern"
That Christ be formed in you,
That the life of Jesus be made manifest in you.
This is the formation we want for you,
This is the fulfillment of the ideal we seek."

"You don't have to be rich in order to give.
It is enough to be good.
He who is good will always find something to give."

"Poor is he who shares with his brothers
what he is, what he studies,
What he knows, what he was."

"O youth,
powerful weapon,
you can conquer the world no more... no less."

Evening Prayer:
Lord, thank you for all the blessings you have given me today.  Give me light to see my faults and the means to prevent me from offending you again.

Oh my God, I am sorry for all my sins, omissions, ingratitude and, for my lack of correspondence to Your grace, I resolve not to offend you again, to change my life, to avoid the occasions of sin and to be more obedient to your will.

Lord, I offer you all my thoughts, desires, and all that I am, I want to serve and praise you at all times.

Most loving Mother, I give myself completely to you.  Watch over me, and protect me from all harm, especially the the hour of my death.

Lord Jesus, I accept death whenever and wherever it may please you.  Amen.

About the School

Our logo:
Symbols: Cross: symbolizes Jesus Christ, center of integral formation offered in school
Book: science and knowledge
Star: Mary, Mother of Jesus
Words: Deus Scientiarum Dominus "God, the Lord of the Sciences"
This logo (well, when I do get a picture of it!) expresses our roots and our aspirations. For a Povedan, knowledge and virtue, science and faith, study and prayer are all important. They are like wings that enable a Poveda to fly and attain integral growth and formation.

(Just to let you know, I got this from the student handbook, I'm not crazy enough to write this stuff!.)
